Nantucket is a wonderful place to learn about history

people lived during the whaling era or spend an afternoon visiting the Oldest House or
take the kids to the top of Old North Church for a breathtaking view of town. Stroll
along cobblestone streets and brick sidewalks. Watch sunrise from the
wharf or sunset from the beach. There

Here are a few historical places of interest you can
visit while here:
- Oldest House
Off Sunset Lane. Built in 1686 by families of the first settlers who arrived in 1659
to raise sheep and farm. Wonderful collection of original furnishings. Notice
the "U" on the chimney to ward witches away!
- Whaling Museum
Broad Street. Whaling brought wealth and prosperity to Nantucket back in the early
1800's. Wonderful paintings of whaling families, artifacts and a whale's skeleton
among the items found here.
- The Hadwen House
96 Main Street. Built for a wealthy whaling tycoon, this greek revival mansion and
beautiful gardens capture the romance and elegance of a day gone by.
- The Old Mill
Prospect & S. Mill Street. Built in 1746 it is the only survivor of four
original windmills used to grind corn. Still active, you can tour the inside and
watch the vanes in the wind from the outside.
- The 1800 House - 4 Mill Street
- Fair Street Museum & Quaker Meeting House - Fair Street
- The Hinchman House - 7 Milk Street
- Maria Mitchell Observatory - 3 Vestal Street
- Old Gaol - 15 Vestal Street
- Quaker Cemetery - Madaket & Quaker Road
- Sankaty Lighthouse - Siasconset
- The Three Bricks - Main Street
